Agrovista looking to advise growers in a new era of environment-led policy at Midlands Machinery Show

Agrovista looking to advise growers in a new era of environment-led policy at Midlands Machinery Show

Protecting and getting the best out of your crop is more important than ever and providing the advice and services that works for your farm business is something that Agrovista strives to achieve.

Agrovista has been one of the leading national suppliers of agronomy advice, seed, crop protection products and precision farming services for the past 60 years and are looking to be of service at this year’s Midlands Machinery Show.

Agrovista is committed to helping its customers manage their businesses more efficiently and more profitably working with partners across the sectors, but at the moment farmers are seeing a lot of challenges.

“I think the biggest challenges we’re seeing at the moment is the removal of the payment structure we’ve had for all my working life,” says Phil Warham, Crop Advisor for Agrovista. “But the options are there. The good businesses, the forward-thinking businesses, have embraced it, got on with it and they’re the ones that’ll go forward and survive and be profitable.”

Agrovista is advising growers on the different options available to them in a new era of environment-led policy. This can include cover cropping, bi-cropping, and insecticide-free schemes, for example, which will allow growers to replace some or all of the income being lost with the gradual loss of the Basic Payment Scheme.

But making your business more profitable and efficient requires more than just finding the right environmental options.

“To safeguard your future is a challenge,” says Phil. “However, finding the sweet spot with labour and machinery so that you’re maximising the output but not under or over utilising is a major factor, especially with the current price of machinery and the difficulty of retaining good staff.”

The Midlands Machinery Show gives companies the opportunity to speak to growers face-to-face, an opportunity that Agrovista has been capitalising on for the past six years.

“The Midlands Machinery Show’s been the highlight of our autumn show diary,” says Phil. “This year’s hot topic will be the weather – it always is – and the poor harvest, and the knock-on effect from 2023/24’s weather, which we’re all trying to work our way through.

“I would love to talk to anybody who wants to talk about nutrition and biostimulants, because it’s something that I’m a great believer in, done a lot of trials with, and I think they can help provide good yield results with better profit margins.”

The Midlands Machinery Show will be held on 20 and 21 November at Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire.
